Cool Beans: Major League Eating

From time to time I come across things that I find fascinating or interesting. I'll share those stories here in the cool beans section.

So last night I was bored and watching TV which I rarely do. I found out two things in my journey through the wild world of late night channel flipping. First I found out I have the BIO channel which I never even knew existed. Apparently the channel focuses on doing biographies on famous people. The other thing I learned was on a documentary they were showing last night. It seems there is a sports league that I never heard of before: Major League Eating.

It was so COOL! It was crazy to see all the food they ate and all the crazy personalities the competitors have. But for all of the fun and crazyness the events seem like these "gustatory athletes" take their business very seriously. That's because there is serious money up at these events! The smaller ones give anywhere from a cool G to 5k a contest. The biggest one, Nathans Famous Hot Dog Eating Championship gives 20,000 dollars! That's for ten minutes of eating!

I've had my own experience with competitve eating (The Fatburger Challenge lol don't worry I'll post it later) but what they do is crazy. The Documentary follows Gravy Brown, Crazy Legs Conti, Lovely Juliet Lee, and Eater X. Check out the MLE website here. Here's the preview for the episode. Try and catch it on a rerun if you can.

It's definatley cool beans.
